Bethany on Cass

I took Team Communication in the spring of 2016 where I got the opportunity to work with a non-profit organization to solve one of their problems. The assignment was to construct a project brief and present our experience to the class. I took on the role of a secretary. I documented our meetings and noted changes and important information needed to accomplish our goals. My group’s name was called the Flying BB’s where our goal was to create an enjoyable outdoor living space for the Bethany on Cass Assisted Living Community. That wasn’t always the case. Our original task was to clean and create a mural for the employee's break room. However, as spring was arriving, we shifted goals to meet the needs of the residents. We’ve also had other issues involving bad weather that prevented us to carry out our duties. That also meant that we weren’t able to finish the project before spring semester ended. That didn’t stop us from continuing to fulfill our goal. We came back after the semester and completed it. In the end, the residents and employers were appreciative of our assistance. It was such a great experience to be a part of something that improved our community. I learned that although something may not go as plan, it should never stop one from fulfilling that goal.
